1849 Homeowners Association

Named after the year of the California Gold Rush, 1849 Condos at Mammoth’s Canyon Lodge is located in the heart of the Sierra’s in beautiful Mammoth Lakes, CA.

Like its name, 1849 Condos is rooted in Eastern Sierra history. Dave McCoy, founder of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, called 1849 Condos’ “home” for over 10 years. He resided in the complex’s only penthouse. Phase 1 of the property was developed by, Dave McCoy’s 3rd oldest child, Dennis “Pancho” McCoy. Before becoming a developer, Pancho competed in the Men’s Downhill at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. 1849 holds the history of Mammoth Mountain as a destination for both summer and winter activities.

1849 is one of the most unique buildings in Mammoth Lakes architecturally. The concrete building was the first of its kind. The cost of a 2 bedroom upon development was a mere $39,000. The cost of a 3 bedroom was $45,000. In the development stages, the prices were $10,000 more than other complexes in Mammoth.

This piece of property was originally part of a proposal that intended to develop a condo complex that would extend from the top of Lakeview Blvd. down to the first stop sign. The property plans consisted of building several towers and operating a train that would take folks up the hill to the ski resort and back home again. The complex, although fully renovated in 2008-2009 at a cost of $9.5 million, is still the largest and most prominent project at the Canyon Lodge area in Mammoth Lakes. It is the premier location in proximity to the lifts at Canyon Lodge.
